Over 30 Million Years Old Pre-Historic Fossil Stolen From Meghalaya Village

A rare pre-historic fossil, possibly 35 to 40 million years old, has been stolen from a village in Meghalaya, leaving people in shock and outraged. The fossil was discovered in May last year in the state's Tolegre village in South Garo Hills. The Geological Survey of India (GSI) had examined the site last year and collected samples. Following this, the villagers were safeguarding the remaining fossil by restricting access to the area, officials said. The fossil is possibly from the extinct Rodhocetus or Ambulocetus - early ancestors of modern whales. Gang Members Throw Bombs To Celebrate Birthday, Paraded Through Same Market

The police paraded them through the very market where they fired gun shots, threw down bombs in a busy market to celebrate the birthday of their gang leader in Uttar Pradesh, showed a video. The incident, which was reported from the Lal Bangla area of Kanpur, took place on Wednesday. CCTV footage helped zero in on the suspects and the police arrested three people. The three arrested have been identified as Sahil (18), Debu Kumar Valmiki (27), and Razjulla (23). The video showed that the men, surrounded by cops, were taken around the same busy market to restore confidence among the people. A senior police officer assured that under no circumstances will the social peace be allowed to be disturbed. "The police is keeping an eye on some of the associates of the three accused who have been arrested now and appropriate action will be taken against them," said the senior police officer. Senior lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani has punctured US short seller Hindenburg Research's chief Nate Anderson over his announcement that he would wind up the firm. Mr Anderson said the work took a toll on him as it was "rather intense and at times all-encompassing". Hindenburg targeted the Adani Group in a case that is now seen as an attack on the 'India Story'. "Frankly speaking, I don't know how old Mr Anderson is, but the fact of the matter is that he's not had some sterling results. His claim to fame really rests on the Adani hit job, which he was part of. I don't think he's done other serious work or businesses of note. So, he is essentially a research analyst," Mr Jethmalani told NDTV. One of the reasons for winding up Hindenburg, Mr Anderson said, was it completed the projects it was handling.
