"Should Go To Pak": Kasab Trial Witness Over Congress Leader's 26/11 Remark

Devika Rotawan, the youngest eye-witness in the trial of 26/11 terrorist Ajmal Kasab, slammed Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar without naming him for his statement about the death of then Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad chief Hemant Karkare and said one should not "sprinkle salt on wounds". Mr Wadettiwar, the Leader of Opposition in the state assembly, claimed that Hemant Karkare, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad chief during the 26/11 terror attack, wasn't killed by Kasab but by a bullet fired by a policeman affiliated to the RSS. The Congress leader made the statement as he attacked the BJP's Mumbai North Central candidate Ujjwal Nikam - the special public prosecutor in the 26/11 trial. "If Kasab did not fire on 26/11 then who did? No one will ever be able to forget the terror attack. You scratch our wounds and then sprinkle salt into it. If you want to do politics, do it on other topic and not on this," she told news agency PTI. On November 26, 2

Supreme Court Approves Rajasthan Government's Two-Child Rule

People with more than two children will not be eligible for government jobs in Rajasthan -- this 1989 law of the state has now got the Supreme Court's seal of approval. The rule is non-discriminatory, the judges said, hearing a petition challenging it. It falls within the purview of policy and there is "no need to interfere with it," said the bench of Justices Surya Kant, Dipankar Dutta and KV Vishwanathan, in an order on February 20. The bench upheld the decision of Rajasthan High Court of October 12, 2022, and dismissed the petition of former soldier Ramji Lal Jat. After retirement from defence services in January 2017, the soldier had applied for the post of a constable in Rajasthan Police in May 2018. But his application was rejected under the Rajasthan Police Subordinate Service Rules, 1989, as he had more than two children after 1 June 2002. The court said it had earlier approved similar rules – meant to promote family planning -- for contestants of Panchayat

A deal could also include the exchange of dozens of hostages for several hundred Palestinian detainees held by Israel.  Biden was asked during a visit to New York when such an agreement might start, and answered, "My national security advisor tells me that we're close, we're close, we're not done yet." "Not Freedom Of Speech": Minister On Space To Khalistani Elements Abroad

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar called out the space given to extremist Khalistani elements in foreign countries and said this is not freedom of speech, but a misuse of it. He said it is not good for any country to send that kind of message for their own reputation and expressed hope that action will be taken against those who attacked Indian missions. The Minister was speaking at the event 'The Rise of the Global South' at TV9 Bharatvarsh Conclave on Monday. Speaking about the situation in Canada, Mr Jaishankar said, "We had to suspend the issue of visas in Canada because our diplomats were not safe going to work, they were repeatedly threatened, intimidated, and got very little comfort from the Canadian system at that time...which has improved since then." "We reached a stage, where, as a minister, I could not risk exposing my diplomats to the kind of violence prevalent there. That part of it has been rectified, so today our visa operations are prett

A businesswoman who allegedly stalked and later kidnapped a TV music channel anchor, with the intention of marrying him, was arrested in Hyderabad, police said on Friday. The woman had allegedly installed a tracking device on the TV anchor's car to stalk him and monitor his movements, they said. The 31-year-old woman, who runs a digital marketing business, saw the photos of the TV anchor on a matrimony website and started chatting with the account holder two years ago. However, she later realised that the account holder was using the TV anchor's photo as the profile picture on the matrimony site, instead of his own photo. She then searched through the profile and found the phone number, which belonged to the anchor. She contacted the anchor through an instant messaging app but was informed by him that some unknown person had used his photo and created a fake account on the matrimony site, and that he had lodged a complaint in the Cyber Crime police station about it. "India Is Standing Against A Bully": Top Bureaucrat On Situation At LAC

India is standing against a "bully" in a very "determined fashion", Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane said on Wednesday, referring to the situation arising out of China's military assertiveness along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh. His remarks came while replying to a question during an interactive session at the INDUS-X Summit. India and the US can play a pivotal role in shaping the geopolitical landscape of the Indo-Pacific, promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the region, Mr Aramane said. "The possibility that we may encounter a similar situation to what we faced in 2020 is keeping us active all the time," he said. Aramane was asked about challenges India is facing along the LAC and New Delhi's expectations from Washington to deal with common challenges. "One thing which helped us very quickly is the intelligence, the situational awareness which the US equipment and the US government helped us with. So that is o

This US Firm Is Paying Employees To Hang Out, But There's A Small Catch

In a unique initiative, a $3.5 billion cloud-based security company in the US is paying its employees to socialise with each other. The program that started last April at Verkada, a California-based firm, lets three or more employees go out for food and drinks after 3 pm at the company's expense, Fortune reported. Dubbed the '3-3-3', the perk lets employees expense up to $30 in food and drinks if they go out, in groups of at least three. Verkada's CEO Filip Kaliszan recently went viral in a TikTok discussing the 3-3-3 perk on a podcast. ''The idea is it's the afternoon and three people go out and hang out together, chances are you'll talk about something relevant or work-related, and ultimately that will benefit us,'' Mr Kaliszan said in the interview. All 1,800 of Verkada's employees have participated in the program at least once. The CEO told Business Insider that such kind of interaction is crucial for Verkada to stay competitive in an

"We're Open": S Jaishankar On India Mediating To End Russia-Ukraine War

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has indicated that India was open to considering playing the role of a mediator to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict if approached but noted that New Delhi does not believe it should initiate anything on its own. In an interview with German economic daily Handelsblatt, he also said that following the Ukraine conflict, India's energy suppliers in the Middle East gave priority to supplying petroleum products to Europe that paid higher prices and New Delhi did not have any option but to procure Russian crude oil. Mr Jaishankar asserted that just as India does not expect Europe to have a view of China that is identical to New Delhi's, Europe should understand that India cannot have a view of Russia that is identical to the European one. He said India has had a "stable" and "very friendly" relationship with Russia, and that Moscow never hurt New Delhi's interests. "We, on the other hand, had a politically and mili

Police made the horrifying discovery after arresting the woman on December 29, 2022, on an unrelated matter. Forensic officers, clad in biohazard suits, had to navigate through heaps of rubbish, rats, deceased possums, and human waste to reach the remains, which had turned into a skeleton. "Mountain Out Of A Molehill": Mamata Banerjee Amid Sandeshkhali Controversy

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee doubled down on her claim that the BJP is behind the massive controversy over sexual exploitation allegations from Sandeshkhali. Her detractors, she alleged, are making a "mountain out of a molehill". Speaking at an event in Birbhum, the Chief Minister doubled down on detractors and said the incident was engineered. "You try to create knots in Bengal and we try to untie knots. If any person is tortured then our government takes steps. One incident has happened. The incident has been made to happen," she said. "First they sent the ED there. Then its friend the BJP entered with the ED. And some media along with them. After going there, they are making a mountain of a molehill. Instead of peace, they are starting fires," Mamata Banerjee said. So far, the local women have held more than one protest, alleging that local Trinamool leader Sheikh Shahjahan and his aides are systematically exploiting them. Union minister Smr
