Trump Fires National Security Agency Director Timothy Haugh: Report

US President Donald Trump fired General Timothy Haugh as director of the National Security Agency, in a national security purge that sources said on Friday included more than a dozen staff at the White House national security council. NSA director Air Force General Haugh, who is also head of US Cyber Command, was dismissed along with Wendy Noble, his deputy at the NSA, two sources familiar with the decision said. Two other sources said at least 10 staff were let go at the NSC, along with four senior directors, including the entire International Organization (IO) Directorate, which works with international and multilateral groups like the United Nations. No reason was given for the firings, which took place after the Republican president had an Oval Office meeting with Laura Loomer, a far-right political activist known as a conspiracy theorist, who said on X.com she had given Trump a list of officials she considered disloyal to him. The White House declined comment and the Pentagon ...

Google Engineer On Being Laid Off Via Email After 20 Years Of Service

Tech giant Google is laying off 12,000 employees, or 6 per cent of its workforce. Impacted by the job cut, a software engineer named Jeremy Joslin working in the tech giant since 2003 was laid off. The company gave him the news over an email.

In a tweet, Mr Joslin wrote, "It's hard for me to believe that after 20 years at #Google I unexpectedly find out about my last day via an email. What a slap in the face. I wish I could have said goodbye to everyone face to face."

In a LinkedIn post, Mr Joslin added, "I never thought it would happen like this."

On Friday, Google and Alphabet CEO, Sundar Pichai shared the difficult news with its employees. "We've decided to reduce our workforce by approximately 12,000 roles. We've already sent a separate email to employees in the US who are affected. In other countries, this process will take longer due to local laws and practices," the message read.

Mr Pichai said, "Over the past two years we've seen periods of dramatic growth. To match and fuel that growth, we hired for a different economic reality than the one we face today."

Alphabet's job losses affect teams across the company including recruiting and some corporate functions, as well as some engineering and products teams.

The news comes during a period of economic uncertainty as well as technological promise.

A "Young Child" Being Targeted: Kamal Haasan On 'Sanatana' Remark Row

Makkal Needhi Maiam chief Kamal Haasan on Friday said DMK leader and Tamil Nadu Youth Welfare Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin is being "hounded" for his remark on Sanatana Dharma. Addressing a party meet in Coimbatore, Mr Haasan, without naming Udhayanidhi, the BJP or any other outfit, said a "young child" is being targeted today as he had spoken about Sanatana Dharma. Indicating that there is nothing new about the minister's remark on Sanatana Dharma, the actor implied that several leaders of the Dravidian movement such as Udhayanidhi's grandfather and late DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi have also spoken about it in the past. Mr Haasan said the extent of reformist leader Periyar  V Ramasamy's anger against social ills can be understood from the leader's life. He said people like himself understood the word 'Sanatana' only due to Periyar. Though Periyar had been the administrator of a temple and had even performed puja while in Kashi, he gave up...

"US Notified About Biden's Visit To Kyiv But...": Russian Security Chief

Russia gave no security guarantees to US President Joe Biden during his unannounced visit to war-torn Ukraine, Russian intelligence agency director Alexander Bortnikov said on Tuesday. President Biden visted Kyiv on Monday for the first time since Russia invaded Ukraine almost a year ago. "Indeed, the United States notified Russia about Biden's visit to Kiev - via diplomatic channels. But we gave no guarantees of his security," Federal Security Service (FSB) Director Bortnikov said in an interview with the Shot Telegram channel. Russia was informed about the trip a few hours before President Biden's departure for "deconfliction purposes", a US official said. Bortnikov said that Russian and US special services continue to cooperate, especially in what concerns the fight against international terrorism. "This cooperation continues. Naturally, it is not at the level it used to be at so no one benefits from it. All of us are interested in maintaining t...
